Report highlights the benefits of knowledge valorisation in higher education

Knowledge valorisation requires a holistic, whole‑of‑institution approach – isolated measures are not enough, according to a report by the Community for Educational Innovation (CEI). CEI, with more than 1,400 members from 96 countries, serves under the Erasmus+ programme as a platform for professional exchange and policy dialogue.

The CEI report stresses that knowledge valorisation, as a process, is a strategic tool that enables higher education institutions and research organisations to move from research to real-world impact.

Key findings of the report include:

  • Institutional support structures for researchers work best when they are coherent, visible and well integrated across the entire research lifecycle.
  • Partnerships with non-academic stakeholders that enable co-creation and the uptake of innovation are crucial.
  • Capacity building for sustained knowledge valorisation depends fundamentally on people and skills, not just on structures.

In addition to practice-based examples, the report sets out key recommendations, such as making valorisation outcomes visible and counting them in career progression, safeguarding the capacity of knowledge transfer and TTO units, and ensuring continuity beyond the end of individual projects.
